Where things stand

MetaMask, the self-custodial wallet from Consensys, runs a Rewards programme rather than an announced token airdrop. The official Rewards page describes it as a loyalty programme in which users earn points for eligible perpetual trades and token swaps made in the mobile app and extension. We found no post on metamask.io announcing a MetaMask token, a snapshot or a claim, and the news page we opened lists product items such as the Money Account launch instead.

The Season 1 rewards listed on the Rewards page include a share of over $30 million in $LINEA, trading fee discounts, future token allocations and exclusive offers. The page's disclaimer states that any Linea token payout will be based on a set of activities and that the estimate depends on projected activity and the Linea token's current price, both of which are subject to change. That makes the payout a Linea-denominated reward, not a MetaMask token.

Because no MetaMask token is officially confirmed on the pages we opened, we classify the project as potential. Reports of a live MASK claim have circulated on third-party sites; we could not tie them to any MetaMask or Consensys page, and one claim domain cited in search results is not a MetaMask domain. Treat such claims as unverified.

How eligibility works

To join, users update the mobile app to version 7.57 or higher and opt in from the Rewards tab. The programme is unavailable in the United Kingdom and in regions where MetaMask services are not supported, and hardware wallet accounts are not supported yet. Points have no upper limit, and reaching the top level does not cap them.

New users receive 250 sign-up bonus points. Referrals add 250 more for the new user, and the referrer earns 10 points per 50 points the referee earns from trading. Accounts with at least $1,250 in historical swap and bridge volume can earn loyalty bonuses of up to 50,000 points in total. Boosts multiply points for specific trades and can be combined.

Progress resets at the end of each season, although activity in the previous season earns bonuses at the start of the next. The Rewards page does not publish a Sybil-filtering method, so participants should assume that opt-in wallets are reviewed and that duplicate or automated activity can be excluded.

Risks and red flags

MetaMask is one of the most imitated brands in crypto. Any page offering a MASK claim, a wallet verification or a seed-phrase check is a scam: MetaMask never asks for your Secret Recovery Phrase. Open Rewards only from within the app or from metamask.io, and compare the domain character by character.

Points reward trading, and trading carries cost and risk. Fees, gas, slippage and perp losses can exceed the value of the rewards. The Rewards disclaimer itself states that digital assets are speculative, volatile and high-risk, and that participants are responsible for their own taxes and fees. Nothing here is financial advice.

What to take from this

The distinction that matters is between a rewards programme and a token announcement. MetaMask Rewards publishes concrete terms for a Linea payout, but it does not state that points will convert to a MetaMask token. Until MetaMask publishes that itself, any such conversion is speculation.

If you already use MetaMask for swaps you would make anyway, opting in costs little. Trading only to accumulate points is a different decision, because the reward is variable and the programme's terms can change by season.
