What qualified participants did
- Traded organically on Lighter through the web interface or API during Season 1 or Season 2 to earn weekly points
- Kept activity within the stated rules: no self-trading, wash trading or Sybil accounts
- Received LIT automatically in the Lighter account if deemed eligible, as no claim action is described in the terms
- For the Robinhood Chain program: read the program terms before trading, since no token reward is stated
Where things stand
Lighter is a perpetual futures exchange that its Terms of Service describe as software running on a layer-2 Ethereum blockchain, and its docs describe a zero-fee trading environment. Its infrastructure token, LIT, is now live. The official LIT Utility page describes staking with a three-day unstaking lockup, access to the Lighter Liquidity Pool for stakers, a fixed 6% staking APR, and buybacks funded by trading fee revenue executed through daily TWAPs.
The points seasons that fed the airdrop are closed. The docs state that Season 1 ended with the final private beta distribution on September 30, 2025, and that Season 2 ended on December 26, 2025. The Terms of Service, updated December 29, 2025, contain an airdrop clause stating that users do not need to take any action and that eligible users automatically receive tokens in their Lighter accounts. Lighter also states that users are not entitled to a set amount and that it may restrict distribution at its discretion.
We could not open an official announcement that states the airdrop percentage or the total number of tokens distributed. Third-party reports gave figures that did not agree with each other, so we leave that field empty. Separately, Lighter on Robinhood Chain has its own points program, with terms effective August 10, 2026. The docs describe it as a way to recognise eligible users and do not say that points convert to a token, so it should be read as a program without a confirmed reward.
How eligibility worked
Points were earned by running organic trading strategies through the user interface or the API. For retail users in Season 2, 200,000 points were shared each week, covering activity from Wednesday through Tuesday and paid out on Fridays. The categories that affected a score included volume, open interest, fundings, liquidations and deleverages, and profit and loss. The docs say points are not distributed linearly, so doubling volume could give more or less than double the points, and that markets are not weighted equally: volume on BTC and volume on HYPE do not earn the same.
Market makers shared 50,000 points per week, which is 20% of the 250,000 total, and only premium or advanced accounts could earn them. The market-maker score added a 25% bonus to weekly maker volume above 2.5 billion and also rewarded quality liquidity, with higher weights on smaller markets that lacked liquidity. The Lighter Liquidity Pool counted as a market maker for scoring, but its points were scaled out so the total stayed at 250,000 and were not credited to the pool itself.
- Points came from volume, open interest, funding, liquidations and PnL, with scaling for trading quality.
- Premium or advanced accounts could weight PnL differently and were the only ones eligible for market-maker points.
- Intentionally losing money or getting liquidated was stated not to be beneficial.
Sybil filtering and risks
Lighter says it used automated and semi-automated Sybil detection and does not disclose the metrics, to avoid encouraging gaming. One concrete rule is published: up to 10 accounts per user are allowed without penalty, because the team accepts that some traders keep several accounts for risk management. Self-trading was addressed in a Discord announcement referenced from the docs, and the docs state that self-trading, Sybil activity and similar behaviour does not earn points.
The Robinhood Chain program terms go further, listing wash trading, trading between commonly controlled accounts, artificial volume, spoofing and operating multiple accounts to earn extra points as ineligible activity that can lead to point adjustments or disqualification.
Participants should also note the geography clause in the Terms of Service: the services are not available to people or entities in a list of jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, among others. Trading perpetuals with leverage can result in liquidation, and points have no guaranteed conversion rate.
What to take from this drop
Lighter shows how a points program for a perp DEX can reward trading quality rather than raw volume. The published scoring factors, the non-linear scaling and the penalty for deliberate losses all point toward participants who trade for genuine reasons. Volume farmed with offsetting positions between your own accounts was explicitly outside the rules.
The airdrop clause is also a useful security reference. If tokens are credited automatically, there is no legitimate claim link to click. A site that tells you to connect a wallet and approve a transaction to "claim LIT" is not following Lighter's own terms. Never share a seed phrase and open the app from the official lighter.xyz address.
Finally, a new points program is not a confirmed token reward. Check the program terms for what is promised before spending fees on volume, and treat this page as ended unless Lighter publishes new official information.

Lighter airdrop questions
Is the Lighter airdrop still open?
Points Seasons 1 and 2 are closed and LIT is live. The official terms say eligible users receive tokens automatically, so there is no separate claim window. A points program for Lighter on Robinhood Chain started in August 2026, but its docs do not state a token reward.
Do I need to claim LIT?
According to the airdrop clause in Lighter's Terms of Service, users do not need to take any action and eligible users automatically receive tokens in their Lighter accounts. Be cautious about any site asking you to approve a transaction to claim.
How many accounts can I use on Lighter without a Sybil penalty?
The docs state that up to 10 accounts per user are allowed without penalty. Self-trading and other Sybil activity does not earn points.
