Where Linea stands

The LINEA token went live with an airdrop claim on 10 September 2025, and the project said tokens were claimable for 90 days. In an October 2025 update Linea reported that more than 90 percent of eligible wallets had already claimed. That window has long passed. The pages we opened do not give the exact closing date or the unclaimed amount. Our Linea airdrop page has the full record.

No new Linea airdrop is announced in the official pages we reviewed. We also could not verify a Linea identifier on a price aggregator, so unlike most ecosystem pages this one has no live market panel. That is a deliberate gap, not an oversight.

How the LINEA supply was split

The tokenomics documentation sets a maximum supply of 72,009,990,000 LINEA. Eighty-five percent goes to the ecosystem and fifteen percent to the Consensys treasury, locked for five years. Inside the ecosystem share, 75 percent sits in a fund managed by the Linea Consortium that unlocks over ten years, and the remaining 10 percent goes to early contributors: 9 percent for early-user airdrops and 1 percent for strategic builders, fully unlocked. The documentation states there is no allocation to private investors, insiders, employees or team members.

  • Consensys treasury, five-year lock
  • Early-user airdrops

The eligibility description is short: activity-based metrics, including Linea Voyage XP and onchain metrics. The documentation we read gives no scoring formula and does not describe a Sybil method, so we do not either. For how long-running points programmes turn into tokens, see our points guide.

An Ethereum-style network, with specifics

Linea describes itself as a public, permissionless zkEVM layer 2, built on Lineth (formerly the Linea Stack), that finalises state to Ethereum and is fully EVM-compatible. It states soft finality in about one second and ZK-proof withdrawals instead of a seven-day challenge period. For you, the account model is the familiar Ethereum one, with the same addresses and the same kind of approvals, so the hygiene in our approvals guide carries over directly. Compare Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum for the same pattern with different economics.

One difference deserves a warning. The docs state that type 4 (EIP-7702) transactions are supported as of Beta v5.0, and the docs index points to a tutorial on upgrading an externally owned account to a smart account. That is a legitimate feature. It also means a signature can change what your account is allowed to do, rather than merely moving a token. Our editorial advice is to treat any prompt that talks about "upgrading" or "delegating" your account as a high-risk request, and to be aware that Linea itself said there is no delegation for the LINEA airdrop. If a page uses that word, it is not describing the official claim.

Where Linea differs from Ethereum, per the docs
  • BLOBBASEFEE always returns the minimum value and BLOBHASH always returns 0.
  • PREVRANDAO is not the Ethereum RANDAO value.
  • MODEXP accepts integers only up to 1024 bytes.
  • Call data is limited to 60,000 bytes so a transaction fits in a blob.
  • Type 3 (blob) transactions are not supported; type 4 (EIP-7702) transactions are, as of Beta v5.0.
  • linea_estimateGas and a few other RPC methods differ from Ethereum.

These matter to developers more than to participants. They explain why a contract that works on Ethereum may need testing before it is trusted on Linea.

Network settings from the official Connect page

Fake networks are a known trick, so compare any settings you are given with these official values.

The docs say MetaMask includes Linea by default, and that Coinbase Wallet, Ledger, Trust Wallet and Rainbow each publish a guide to adding the network. Lineascan and Blockscout are listed as official explorers; the docs also list community explorers, which we do not vouch for.

Bridging in and out

The official bridge app is at linea.build/hub/bridge. It offers a native bridge, an aggregator powered by Li.Fi, a fiat on-ramp and a route for centralised-exchange deposits. The docs call the aggregator the best option for most users, noting it is usually faster than the native bridge but slightly more expensive.

Native bridge timings as stated in the Linea docs
RouteTo LineaBack to Ethereum
ETH and ERC-20 (native bridge)About 20 minutesAbout 2 to 12 hours
USDC, CCTP StandardAbout 13 to 19 minutesAbout 2 to 12 hours
USDC, CCTP FastAbout 20 secondsAbout 8 seconds

Three details are easy to miss. Withdrawals to Ethereum and anything involving USDC need a second, manual claim transaction on the target layer, which costs a fee. Unclaimed manual claims older than 90 days drop out of the bridge app and need a different procedure. And Ethereum-bound transfers carry a 0.001 ETH anti-DDoS fee on top of gas. Each of those is exactly the kind of "extra fee" that a scam would imitate, so knowing the real ones helps you spot false ones.

What gas costs on Linea

Linea follows the EIP-1559 model: total fee equals gas used times base fee plus priority fee. The priority fee is built from a variable cost based on calldata and a fixed 0.03 gwei infrastructure cost. The docs' example response shows a base fee of 7 wei and a priority fee of about 0.071 gwei for a 53,000-gas transaction. That is one sample, not a typical cost, and conditions change.

What matters for planning is the direction. The variable cost is designed to rise sharply when calldata use stays full, to deter denial-of-service, and to relax afterwards. Use linea_estimateGas or your wallet's estimate on the day. For the economics of repeated activity, see airdrop farming.

Rewards that still run on or around Linea

The campaign list above contains two items: the closed Linea drop and MetaMask, which we mark as potential. The MetaMask Rewards page describes a Season 1 pool of over $30 million paid as a share in LINEA, fee discounts, future token allocations and offers. We found no first-party announcement of a MetaMask token. Points progress resets each season, and the programme is unavailable in the United Kingdom.

How should you weigh a programme like that? Our approach is to separate three things the page does not always separate for you: the points you earn, the pool they might share, and the token the pool might be paid in. Only the first is under your control, and the second and third can change from season to season. If the benefit of swapping is a fee discount you would value anyway, the programme costs you little. If the benefit depends on a payout you cannot size, treat any fees you pay to chase it as spending, not investing.

Scam patterns, taken from Linea's own warnings

Linea's security post is unusually specific, and it is worth turning into a list.

  • Only the official claim site. Linea said to connect and claim only on its official claim website shared through official channels.
  • Never interact with the token contract directly or use third-party tools. Tokens sent to the token contract address cannot be recovered.
  • No delegation for Linea. Any delegation offer is a scam.
  • Official domains and channels are linea.build, its X account and its Discord. Linea would never ask for your recovery phrase, private keys or personal information.
  • Pressure emails. Be wary of messages urging you to verify your wallet or claim now, and of offers of multiplied rewards.

The 90-day window existed partly so people could avoid paying high gas during congestion, and the project said there was no need to rush. Urgency is itself a signal. Read the scam guide and set up a separate wallet using the burner wallet guide.

What we would check first

Open the network settings above and compare them with what your wallet shows. Then ask five questions: who announced the reward, is it points or a token, what does the signing prompt say, what does it cost on the bridge and in gas, and could I afford to lose the wallet's contents. Our verification method explains the evidence bar, and the ecosystem index lets you compare Linea with other networks.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Linea airdrop still open?

No. The LINEA claim opened on 10 September 2025 with a 90-day window, which has passed. We found no newer airdrop in the official pages. Any site asking you to claim LINEA today is almost certainly a scam, and Linea said to claim only on its official claim website.

What is Linea's chain ID and gas token?

The Linea docs list mainnet chain ID 59144, currency symbol ETH, RPC https://rpc.linea.build and block explorer https://lineascan.build. Check these against the official Connect page rather than copying them from a message, because fake networks use look-alike settings.

How long does bridging to Linea take?

The docs give about 20 minutes from Ethereum to Linea on the native bridge for ETH and ERC-20 tokens, and about 2 to 12 hours back. Withdrawals need a manual claim step, and L2 to L1 transfers carry a 0.001 ETH anti-DDoS fee on top of gas.

Does Linea have a token I can track?

Yes, LINEA, with a maximum supply of 72,009,990,000. We could not verify a Linea identifier on a price aggregator, so this page shows no market panel. Use the official documentation for supply facts and check prices on tools you already trust.

Is MetaMask Rewards a Linea airdrop?

Not in the usual sense. MetaMask Rewards is a points programme that, per its page, pays part of its rewards in LINEA. We found no first-party announcement of a MetaMask token airdrop. Treat points as points until the rules say otherwise.
